Using sickness as both material and process, I started to film the evolving landscape of being chronically ill. Another injection, another afternoon on hold, collapsing into a routine that evokes entrapment. Filmed exclusively through a microscope as a metaphor for healthcare’s fragmented approach to the body, the visuals slip between legibility and obfuscation through extreme close-up. The microscope evokes a scientific desire for understanding through seeing, but the holistic view of the patient becomes blurry as the microscope zooms out. The video offers a nuanced glimpse into the experience of sick bodies within the healthcare system, combining voiceover drawn from doctors’ notes with theories of visibility, diagnosis, and embodiment.
